The workshop – a.k.a. the Boutique d’Art Matuweskewin – welcomes visitors and showcases the savoir-faire and the traditions of the Maliseet First Nation, their artists and crafters while offering original and unique pieces.
HISTORY
Located on the reserve of the Maliseet community in Cacouna, the Maison Denis-Launière is the last and only remaining testimony of the presence of the First Nation in the Lower Saint-Lawrence region. It was built in the 1890’s; the Maison became the Interpretation Centre of the Maliseets. In the former shed attached to the Maison one may, throughout the summer, buy aboriginal artifacts. Matuweskewin, a maliceet-passamaquoddy term, means “porcupine hunter”
